AWARDS & experience
I was blessed to be able to teach Visual Arts to children in elementary and middle school at a private school in Virginia. It was a delight to watch children go from drawing stick figures with hesitation, to drawing quite accurate likenesses with confidence, over the course of a semester of instruction. The joy and surprise on their faces as they compared the first drawings of the school year with their most recent work was always very gratifying and exciting to see.
As much as I loved teaching Art, and still do (see the Classes and Events tab above!), most of my time is now spent staying at home with my quickly growing family. But, that doesn't stop me from squeezing in some time for my own artwork here and there (in addition to many crafts with my kids).
In 2011 I submitted a watercolour painting to the North Texas State Fair and was awarded first place in the watercolour category.
